For the past year, we have had the privilege of working alongside the HBCU Environmental Justice Technical Collaborative (HEJTC), a national team of experts dedicated to advancing environmental justice through data-driven solutions.
HEJTC brings together geoscientists, engineers, economists, public health professionals, and GIS specialists, each with deep ties to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Under the leadership of Dr. David Padgett and other distinguished scholars, we support community-based organizations, local governments, and universities by providing technical assistance and research-backed strategies.
Our work is rooted in racial equity, climate resilience, and technological innovation. In years past, the founders of HJETC developed tools like the HCEJST, a GIS-based screening tool for environmental justice, and the Justice40 Funding Data Tracking Tool, helping communities navigate federal funding opportunities. By combining expertise in mapping, environmental science, and policy, we create solutions tailored to the needs of historically marginalized communities.
HEJTC’s strength lies in its collective experience and commitment to impact. Whether it's through technical workshops, strategic advising, or hands-on project support, we are equipping communities with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for environmental and economic justice.
